Not so long ago, calling was the fastest way to get an answer. If something was urgent, you picked up the phone. Texting existed, but it played a supporting role. Today, work communication looks very different. Many everyday interactions happen through free text and call apps – tools that allow people to message and make calls over the internet rather than through traditional phone networks. A short message often replaces a call, letting conversations start instantly or continue asynchronously.

No one wakes up in the middle of the night with a sudden urge to look for a secure messaging app. At least, most people don’t. Yet we live in a world where a large part of our personal and professional lives is constantly shared, stored, and tracked. We click “accept cookies” without reading. We send sensitive files over chats that were never designed for confidential or professional conversations.

Microsoft Copilot brought generative AI into everyday work by embedding assistance across Microsoft 365 apps. It positioned AI as a productivity layer for writing, summarizing, and searching—especially for organizations already locked into the Microsoft ecosystem. However, even Satya Nadella has openly acknowledged that early Copilot adoption has shown AI alone does not automatically translate into business outcomes.

Internal communications teams face a familiar problem: They’re drowning in execution while starving for strategy. Hours disappear into drafting announcements, chasing approvals, and coordinating rollouts. Meanwhile, employees ignore most messages, engagement drops, and leadership wants to see proof of IC’s business impact.

Most of us are almost constantly glued to our smartphones. Messaging feels faster, easier, and more natural than calls or emails. For many, especially younger patients, chat has become the default way to communicate. Scheduling a medical appointment over the phone already feels like a relic of the past – some even joke that avoiding calls has become a mild modern “disease.” This shift has made HIPAA-compliant chat a vital tool in the healthcare industry.
